Biography

 Daniel Joseph Laird was born in  Yuba City, California. He was known for his infectious smile, bountiful generosity, natural physical talent, and his great love of his family. Daniel is survived by his wife Heather, his 8th grade sweetheart and love of his life and his 10 year old daughter Evain.

Laird, an avid fisherman enjoyed spending time in the Eastern Sierras. Some of his favorite fishing spots were in the Sierra Valley and Clio. He was a champion for the community, providing support and advocacy for the construction of a public skateboard park. 

Daniel committed his working life to the U.S. Forest Service. He knew early in life that he wanted to be a firefighter like his father and uncle. When Daniel set his mind to do something, you were guaranteed that he would do it. He was extremely knowledgeable about his craft and loved his job. 

He started as a seasonal firefighter on the Tahoe National Forest and worked his way up to Helitack Captain.  His passion was in aviation, but he was also known for his ability to lead a strike team of engines or a task force of hand crews and heavy equipment.  He was a true leader in every sense.  He was also dedicated to being an instructor and was a believer in the apprentice program, where he helped grow people just like himself.

Firefighters like Daniel commit themselves daily, making sacrifices to do the honorable work of supporting and protecting our communities around the country. Daniel will be greatly missed.
